Daniel Kaluuya Brings Dystopian Future to Netflix with ‘The Kitchen’

Daniel Kaluuya makes his directorial debut in Netflix’s apocalyptic drama ‘The Kitchen’.

Is there anything that Daniel Kaluuya can’t do at this point? The Oscar award-winner is going behind the scenes this time in his latest project, ‘The Kitchen’.

The futuristic movie is set in 2044 in London and stars ‘Top Boy’ star Kane Robinson who plays ‘Izi’, a man who is living in the only social housing left standing. The story follows Izi as he tries to escape the realities in front of him, including the constant police raids due to residents refusing to leave to the deplorable conditions of the housing unit. However, Izi’s plans of finally moving out of ‘the kitchen’ are railroaded when he runs into ‘Benji’, played by Jedediah Bannerman. The two share a connection that will forever change the course of their lives.

The theme of gentrification is felt all throughout the film, a reality all true for many parts of the world. ‘The Kitchen’ allows audiences to better understand the community members living there and understand why leaving is not an option for them.
